Obesity surgery is a serious decision to make if you are obese and wish to lead a healthier life. There are many complications that can occur in addition to the benefits. For example, if you have stomach stapling done you may pop a staple at some future point after the surgery. If you get a band it could slip. Either way you?ll need corrective surgery.

Beneficially your stomach will be much smaller in size and unable to hold as much food, which in turn should allow you dramatic weight loss. Just because your stomach is smaller doesn?t necessarily mean that your appetite will be smaller after you recover. Some people find that initially their appetite is dramatically reduced but after their bodies heal from the surgery old habits return. This can be especially difficult if you are used to eating quickly and ordering large amounts of food.

You should write a personal note to yourself or several copies of the same note that say something to the effect of ?Remember to chew slowly and pay attention to how much food you are eating.? After an obesity surgery you will fill up very quickly and can inadvertently make yourself sick.

It is possible to find ways to cheat on your new weight loss plan and thus regain your weight. One of these is simply to ?graze? all day. Even if you can only eat small amounts at a time you can still gain weight if you constantly eat tiny portions of high calorie foods during the day. This is unfortunent and a common occurrence in patients with whom the obesity surgery doesn?t take.

Also continuing a sedentary lifestyle will hinder your efforts. Its important to start and stay active. One way to stay active and a suggested way for obesity surgery patients is walking.

Understanding obesity – how to reduce weight

A survey of the factors causing obesity and measures to reduce weight successfully.

THE CAUSES OF EXCESSIVE WEIGHT

If you eat more nutrients containing energy than you need for your daily activities, for the internal processes of your body, and for the burning process that maintains the body temperature, the excessive nutrients can be transformed to fat and stored in the fat depots in your body. The causes of this occururing, and thus of overweight, are one or more of these factors:

1. Consuming too much fat: Fat is the most energy-rich nutrient, and over-consume will cause the eccessive fat consumed to be deposited in the body.

2. Consuming too much sugar, starch or other carbohydrates: Carbohydrats are also important energy sources. Over-consume of carbohydrates will cause the eccess to be converted to fat and stored in the body.

3 Consuming too much alchohol: Also this substance contains energy, and eccessive consume results in fat stored in your body.

4 Consuming too much of preprocessed products with added, and often hidden fat or sugar, like sweet beverages, cakes, ice-cream, fast food and snacks.

5. Eating too much alltogeather: Perhaps your food is not fat- or sugar-laden, but you simply eat too much alltogeather. Also protein will be converted to fat if it is overconsumed.

6. Irregular eating, like eating much at one time, little at another time, wait long between some meals, cunsuming huge doses of sugar at some times, no sugar at other times: If you eat irregularly, you can get an uncontrollable appetite, a swinging blood sugar level, and an abnormal physiology that makes you deposit fat in your body.

7. A still sitting life with little exercise so that you burn little fat and sugar.

8. Boredom in your daily life: If you do not have much hobbies, or leasure activities, or isolate yourself from other people, you may suffer form boredom, and eccessive eating may be your way of getting entertainment.

9. The body has some capacity of burning some extra amount of sugar or fat. This capacity may be decreased because of lack of vitamins and minerals, and because of an unsound diet.

10. An abnormal appetite that urges you to eat far more than you need: This abnormal appetite may originate from psychological causes, an onsound diet or lack of exercise.

AANALYZE YOUR OBESITY PROBLEMS

Before beginning your weight reduction program, go through every possible obesity causing factor listed above, to find out what factors contribute to your over-weight problem. Go down to details. For example: If you find you consume too much sugar, find out the exact food types contributing to your eccessive sugar consume. Write everything down.

MAKE A PLAN

With the performed analysis in hand, make a plan for your weigh reduction. Decide a goal for your weight. Decide one or more measures for each component contributing to your problem. Write down your plan.

HOW TO REDUCE WEIGHT

In order to successfully loose weight, you must attack every component you have found to be a causing factor of your obesity problem. Here are the concrete mesures you can use, and put into your plan:

1. Eat less fat

If you eat much fat, you must reduce the daily intake of fat, to do so:

* Choose fat poor fish, fat poor meat/beef, chicken, turkey, mushrooms and other food sources with law fat content as the main components for dishes.

* Cut away visible fat from meat or other food sources.

* Do not add much margarine, butter or oil to your food.

* When you fry something, try to use as little fatty smear in the pan as possible.

2. Eat less sugar

If you eat much sugar, reduce your daily inntake of free sugar, or bounded sugar as in flour, potatoes and the like:

* Do not add much sugar to your food.

* You may also need to consume less bread, potatoes, peas and beens, if you eat very much of it, but do not stop eating these kinds of food, since they contain valuable nutrients. However, use bread made of full corn.

3. Avoid eccessive alcohol consume

Alcohol contains energy, and will be transformed to fat, if you consume too much of it.

4. Avoid preprocessed food with added and often hidden fat or sugar

Some food contains a great amount of hidden fat or sugar, espesially fast food, snacks or preprocessed food.

* Therefore you should avoid eating much of products like: cakes, sweet drinks, snacks, choclate, icecream or fast-food.

* You should also buy all the food you use in a natural form, and make your dishes yourself. Then you achieve an absolute controle over the amount of fat and suger in your dishes

5. Eat less alltogeather, but do not starve yourself

Having reduced the amount of sugar and fat from your diet, you may fall to the temptation of eating more than before, beacuse the new composition of your food does not satisfy your hunger. You should be aware of, and avoid this trap.

* When trying to loose weight, you should reduce the total amount of the food you eat.

* However, you should not starve yourself. To starve will only make you tired and sick, and then make you interrupt your efforts to get slim.

6. Eat regularly

Regular eating habits will give you a stable blood sugar level, help you control your appetite and normalize your fat burning physiology.

* You should eat three or four meals each day.

* Each meal should contain the same moderate amount of sugar and fat.

* Each meal should contain some protein sources like fish, meat, eggs, mushrooms or proteine-rich seeds, and in every means be as nutritionally complete as possible.

7. Increase your daily physical activity

Physical activity increases fat burning and will help you control your appetite.

* Do some daily exercises of a kind that increases energy consumption: Jogging, cycling, swimming, ball play, skiing, and so on.

* Do also som exercises to increase your muscular volume, since muscles will burn fat, for example weight lifting.

8. Find some new hobby or interest

If you find yourself some new hobby or leasure activity, you will avoid boredom and the temptation to over-eat because you are bored. Try also to do interesting activities together with other people. The new activities will also give you less time to only sit eating.

9. Eat healthy food to increase your fat burning capacity

It is not possible to loose weight without sticking to the above mentioned basic fat reduction principles, but you will also benefit from applying some measures that will increase your ability to passivly burn fat:

* Eat as natural food as possible, avoid food that has been heavily cooked, heavily fried or chemically processed. Natural food has its content of protein, vitamines minerals and anti-oxydants intact, and these are necessary for the fat burning abilities.

* Eat some raw fruit and vegatables to each meal, since these contain vitamins, minerals and anti-oxydants you need.

* You may benefit from supplements of vitamins, minerals, herbs, anti-oxydants, as these will make your body more capable of burning fat.

* The little fat you use in your diet, should come from sources like olive, peanuts, canola, fish, nuts, sun-flower, etc. Then you will get a good balance between mono-unsaturated fat (olive, canola, peanuts), poly-unsaturated fat of the omaga-3-type (fish) and poly-unsaturated fat of the omega-6-type (sunflower).

* Consume whole cereals or bread made from whole unrefined cereals.

* There are also natural products on the market you can use to increase your break down and burning of fat.

10. Bring your appetite under controle

Many of the measures allready listed, will also help you to controle your appetite. If this still is difficult, this problem may be attacked by specific means:

* You can use some medicines to reduce appetite for some time or to reduce the uptake of fat or carbohydrates in your inestines. There are both natural medicines based on herbs, vitamins and minerals and pharmachological products to achieve this.

* Daily meditation can help to relaxe your mind and gain controle.

* Psychological counseling may be necessary.

11. The ratio between fat and sugar in your diet

The total mount of fat and carbohydrates combined, is a key factor in causing obesity, not fat alone or carbohydrates alone. In some weight loosing regimes, one eats very little carbohydrates, and fairly much fat. In others one eats fairly much carbohydrates, and very little fat. The proponents of each type of regime claim that their approach helps the body to burn fat better.

Probably people are different, and react differently when trying to manipulate the diet in these ways. As a first approach, it is probably not wise to try such extreme approaches. However, if you have brought your eating habits under controle, and still not achieved a satisfactory result, you can try to manipulate the fat/carbohydrate ratio to see if this will help. But do not stop consuming fat alltogeather. You will allways need some essential fatty acids in your diet.

CARRYING OUT YOUR PLAN

Having made your plan for your weight reduction, the time has come to carry it out. After each week, go through the points in your plan, and evaluate how well you did. Also check your weight. Write down for every point in your plan how well you did.

The Fleshiness Myth: Why United States’s Obsession with Weight Is Hazardous to Your Health. Gotham Books, New York, 2004. At a June 2, 2005, press conference, Dr. Julie Gerberding, the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, apologized for the mixed messages the populace has been getting approximately the dangers of fleshiness. Acknowledging that flawed data in several CDC studies had exaggerated the risks of , Gerberding was responding in part to critics such as Saint Paul Campos. Campos rightly sounds the alarm over bad skill, and his volume The Myth (reissued in May 2005 as The Diet Myth) was prominently featured in a recent Scientific American cover clause.

The Bible and controversy provide an object lesson in skepticism. Campos is not a checkup professional but a lawyer; he makes a point of mentioning this, implying that his status as an outsider to the issuance aids his judgment. It is important to remember, however, that lawyers do not seek the truth; instead, they advocate for one side. In this case, Campos is advocating on behalf of those who believe that the efforts to portray fatness as unhealthy and unacceptable ar driven by debris scientific discipline, hatred of blubber people, and a profit-hungry dieting industry. He also believes that the time-honored free weight loss recipe of watching what you eat and exercising doesn’t work. Campos charges that “almost everything the government and the media [] saying close to exercising weight and weighting control [is] either grossly distorted or flatly untrue.” The whole field is rife with “dust ,” Campos writes, and former Operating surgeon Full general Jacques Louis David Satcher was “brainsick” in his efforts to curb US’s .

It is certainly true, as Dr. Gerberding admitted (and Patrick Johnson explains in this publication), that assorted estimates of ‘s death toll were consistently overdone. While Campos and other critics can gloat in vindication, the fact is that is only the latest in a long list of world threats that have been by a sensationalist news media (and, to a lesser degree, by the medical checkup community). The dire warnings, publicity, and hype surrounding West Nile virus, ebola, flu, anthrax, Mad Cow disease, and even AIDS, to name just a few, all far outstripped any reasonable threat. And confusing and contradictory medical examination information is hardly novel, as William Baarschers describes in his in this exit.

Fighting Obesity By Using Hoodia Diet Pills

Hoodia gordonii is a type of succulent plant that resembles a cactus, and is known to have suppress a person?s appetite and thus help with losing weight. It’s sold in capsule form, and as a liquid or in tea form.

The hoodia cactus is found in the semi-deserts of Africa and grows in clumps of green stems. It usually takes five years before it can be harvested. From the twenty types of hoodia, only the gordonii variety has the appetite suppressant.

To the world, hoodia is a new discovery ? but for the San Bushmen of the Kalahari desert, hoodia has long been part of their food. There really isn?t much published research on hoodia, but one study conducted at Brown University found that the hoodia?s steroidal glycosides fool the brain into thinking that there’s an adequate supply of energy in the form of blood sugar, and therefore doesn?t doesn?t signal the body to eat.

Be careful about some hoodia information in the internet
After the buzz on hoodia, drug manufacturers claiming to sell genuine hoodia has congested the Internet. In fact, fake hoodia diet pills have been found found to contain sawdust, combined with roots of some unknown plants. So be very careful. Also, beware of companies who try to sell hoodia by claimimg that other hoodia products are inferior to their own ? there have been no published reports indicating that one hoodia diet pill product is more effective than the rest.

Hoodia diet pills are effective, but expensive

Hoodia diet pills are expensive for the reasons mentioned above ? it usually takes five years before a hoodia plant can be harvested, and it’s only found in Africa. It’s also quite difficult to grow; in addition to the required four to five years waiting time, it also requires very high temperatures to grow. This explains why it’s so costly.

The proper dose of hoodia

Most companies put a standard recommended dose on the bottle, but there are also cases where people may need more (or less) than the recommended amount to achieve the desired effect. In fact ,some people who are already using hoodia say that they need at least 1,200 milligrams per day to get the result that they want. It would be wise to consult your doctor regarding the correct dosage of hoodia, since factors like weight, diet, lifestyle and metabolism may have an effect on the size dosage that a person needs to take.

Fighting Child Obesity

Weight loss camps are not fat camps, but rather a healthy environment for children to achieve their weight goals.

Fitness and nutrition expert, Tracey Redford of Curves International says, ?The inactivity among young people can not be blamed solely on the evolution of Internet technology and television in itself. Child obesity has lead to a number of other health related issues such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease from the combination of improper nutrition and lack of exercise.?

Redford went on to say, ?We live in a complex society where children of all ages have to contend with social issues such as depression, violence and divorce all having a downward spiraling affect both physically and emotionally. The psychological impact this has on our youth?s triggers an imbalance in eating habits and leads to a lack of motivation creating a domino effect.?

A summer camp experience with weight loss benefits

Last year in Canada alone the government spent over $2 billion on medical procedures surrounding obesity. No matter how many times we read about or see it on the news, children still do not understand the connection between eating, exercise and a healthy body. Rather than pointing fingers and placing blame, we need more resources and programs that can be offered such as summer camp programs specializing in weight loss. These camps are sometimes referred to as ?fat camps? for young children and teens to guide them and educate them on making good healthy choices.

Children and parents shouldn?t be turned off by the words, ?fat camp? which simply means a place where children of all ages can get fit, learn about nutritional balance and have fun doing so. Getting to participate in sports, crafts, and making make new friends while achieving weight loss in a nurturing environment provides a positive alternative for kids, and can pave the way to combat obesity.

The ultimate goal is sustainable healthy weight loss

When children feel they have no options, they continue on the same path of poor eating habits leading to a state of helplessness. Sending a child to a gym where they feel isolated and eventually lose motivation is not the solution either. Redford explains, ?We need far better choices if we want our youth?s to get on track and stay on track. Weight loss camps for pre-teens and teenagers are a viable solution.?

What exactly is a weight loss camp? It?s about building a better self-image and self esteem while promoting health and wellness with individualized programs geared to weight loss that yields long term results. This is the foundation of the whole weight loss summer camp experience. A nutritionist designs an appropriate menu enabling campers to lose the weight and provide the necessary tools to keep the weight off upon returning home from camp. Understanding that the parent?s role is crucial in encouraging proper weight control for their children, the camps provide access to a network of nutritionist across the country.

Anti-Obesity Drug that Prevents Liver Diseases

This article talks about being overweight and obese. This health condition affects more people than before, and also lists down several health problems that can arise henobesity is present. New studies have found one medication for obesity that can supposedly decrease the percentage of having liver diseases in overweight and obese people.

Being overweight and obese is viewed by many as a serious and fast growing public health problem. More and more people are now adding extra weight because of several factors which includes family genetics, eating habits, lifestyle, and so on. This health condition not only gives the person a feel of embarrassment in social circles, but also faces a dangerous health condition.

Obesity is defined as the excess or having too much body fat. Being overweight on the other hand, refers to those who weigh too much. Both of these conditions refer to weight as those that come from the bone, fat, muscle, and body water of a person. Either way, both terms apply to people who have excess weight, more than what their height applies for.

Several health problems may arise if a person is considered as overweight and obese. From arthritis, asthma, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, high cholesterol, gallstone, fatty liver, insulin resistance and diabetes, to depression, these conditions may seriously risk one’s health, putting an overweight or obese person at risk.

In line with this, anti-obesity drugs have been available for people who are experiencing obesity or being overweight. This particular kind of medication includes all pharmacological treatments designed to decrease or control a person’s body weight. Since these drugs are expected to alter one of the fundamental processes of the human body, anti obesity drugs are medically prescribed only for people with morbid obesity, or where weight loss can be life saving.

A new and recent study on the effect of an anti-obesity drug called rimonabant found out that it reduced points of liver damage, decreases levels of pro inflammatory proteins, and improved on lipid profiles. Since obesity is associated with changes in tissue and blood levels of pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory proteins and hormones, it is the main cause of several metabolic syndrome features and their complications, including hepatic steatosis (an accumulation of fat in the liver). According to researchers, as they studied the effect of rimonabant on the liver, they found out that the treatment with this medication reduced liver enlargement, completely eliminated hepatic steatosis, and decreased blood levels that indicate liver disease and liver damage. The results from this study also showed an improvement in abnormal lipid levels, which can lead to cardiovascular diseases. It also lessened the levels of cholesterol and free fatty acids, and with the treatment of rimonabant, normalized levels of adiponectin are reached (a hormone that plays an important role in metabolic disorders).

This study further suggests a potential clinical application in the treatment of liver diseases connected with obesity and the metabolic syndrome. Researchers from this study noted that while weight loss is achieved by burning more calories than consumed, the reality may not be that simple. But then again, this medication also offers a weakened rate due to its side effects such as nausea, dizziness, depression and diarrhea. In any case, this medication should be further studied to prevent any unaccesaaptable side effects that can harm people who are dealing with being overweight and obese.

Child obesity rates are soaring just as high as adult statistics and this is a serious problem that needs to be addressed straight away!! Most child obesity problems stem from the fact that the child was bigger when they were younger therefore the problem was inevitably going to come back. It is so easy to gain weight in a world that convenience foods are most peoples answer to a good and proper meal, and where parents think that food should be used as a reward for children doing something good, all they are doing is contributing to civilizations biggest problem and dooming their child to a life of fatdom.

There are many emotional drawbacks as well as physical drawbacks when it comes to child obesity. When the child goes to school he will automatically become a target for school bullies, the other children will pick on him and he will begin to get depressed and loose interest in school when school should be the happiest time of any child?s life! To prevent this from happening measures need to be taken to loose the weight of your child.

There are also some serious physical drawbacks to having an obese child, he will be a target for chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, bowel cancer and high cholesterol. Those are only some of the more serious problems he will face, other more general problems will be day to day activities will be hindered by his size, nice clothes wont fit him, general movement will be slow as all the extra weight causes pressure on his organs and muscles.

More often than not though once obesity is caught at a young age it can be prevented but when the child gets older to know the difference he must watch what he eats and take care of his health. He is advised to regularly exercise, but this does not mean going to a gym, going out to play football or going to the park are all good things he can be doing to get rid of his excess weight. The parents need to take a look at their lifestyle as well childhood obesity stems from the fact that the parents are not setting a good example and letting their children get grossly overweight.

All this trouble and anxiety can all be prevented with a sensible eating plan and moderate exercise. Don?t waste time trying to fix the problem once its happened, save time before it has happened and prevent the problem!

Child Obesity

Child Obesity is a medical disorder that is found in young children. Children who suffer from this disorder will typically have a weight that is out of proportion with their age and height. Many countries consider this condition to be an epidemic, and it is common in both the United States and the United Kingdom. Statistics show that one out of every three children living in the US is considered to be overweight. There are a number of elements that are responsible for the rise of child obesity in the US. These three elements are genetics, acquired, and marketing.

Research has shown that children who are born to parents who are obese are likely to become obese themselves. While this is often caused by the excessive consumption of unhealthy foods, and some believe the condition may be genetic as well. However, this research is currently being conducted, and there is no concrete evidence which has currently been found to support this. Some children have been found to become obese because of the way their bodies grow. Another element that many believe is responsible for causing children to become obese is referred to as being acquired.

A large number of children in both the US and UK do not get sufficient amounts of exercise. Certain forms of technology such as computes, cell phones, and video games have created an environment where many children are not burning calories by being physically active. The energy that is not used may be stored in the body in the form of fat. It should be noted that it is not the technology that is responsible for this, but it is the failure on the part of parents to make sure their children are getting reasonable amounts of exercise. In the West, many children eat unhealthy amounts of fast or junk food, which has become quite popular. These foods tend to be rich in saturated fat, and are low in nutrients.

The third element which is often blamed for child obesity is marketing. In the United States and Britain, fast food companies are known for advertising their unhealthy foods to young children, and some parents have begun blaming them for the rise in child obesity. However, the junk food and fast food companies often point out that it is not their responsibility to supervise the diet habits of those who eat their products. They often point out that this is the responsibility of the parents to make sure their children are eating right.

There are a number of complications that can be caused by child obesity. Children can develop dangerous ailments such as heart disease or diabetes, and some may also develop cancer. Many of these children who are overweight will remain the same after they have become adults. Some of these children are humiliated by their peers, and may even be insulted by their own families. Because of this, children who suffer from obesity are prone to suffering from mental disorders. There is current debate about who is responsible for this. While it is easy to blame junk food companies, parents ultimately have the responsibility of making sure their children eat right and exercise.

How do we prevent Childhood Obesity

You see it on the playgrounds, at roller rinks, at swimming pools, and in classrooms. Obesity is a modern health dilemma for today?s children, who are struggling with weight as never before. It is a difficult problem to combat, given the fact that you want to make sure that your children are receiving sufficient amounts of nutrients in their diets. While some children may outgrow obesity, others carry it with them into their adult lives. Obesity in children can result in feelings of fatigue.

Children who are overweight may not develop socially as fast as their peers. They can become loners, finding it difficult to make friends. They may think that their weight is beyond their control and they may not know what to do in order to attempt to prevent weight gain. In essence, obese children can become our lost generation.

The parents of these children may not realize how detrimental obesity is to their children?s emotional health. They may consider the obesity just a passing phase and they may not understand the psychological devastation that obesity can cause. They may even dismiss the concerns of their children, hoping that the problem will simply go away.

The causes of childhood obesity can be complex. However, there do appear to be a few identifiable triggers. For instance, many families now eat on the run because of their many commitments. Parents may not think they have time to prepare nutritious meals for their children, so they rely on fast food and sugary snacks to fill in the gaps. As a result, children end up eating a diet that?s rich in fat and sugar but which offers little in the way of nutritional value. According to the American Obesity Association, one third of parents believe their children?s dietary habits are worse than theirs were during their own childhoods.

Another key problem is inactivity. Children watch more than a full day?s worth of television each week. That?s in addition to the hours they devote to their computers. As a result, they?re not playing outside as much as children of generations past. Also, many children may feel as if they cannot participate in sports because of their weight. Feeling defeated before they even start, they pass up opportunities to engage in physical activities.

It has been shown that children tend to be heavily influenced by advertising. Unfortunately, many commercials tout foods that can be best classified as unhealthy. Children crave what they see on TV and in movie theaters and they may not realize what these foods will do to their bodies. Luckily, childhood obesity can be successfully conquered. Here are a few tips to help your child overcome a weight problem:

Encourage your child to take part in sports or dance. If your son or daughter is self-conscious about being a part of a team, exercise with him or her. Take out a ball and shoot a few hoops or turn on the stereo and begin to dance. You may be surprised that, with just a little encouragement, your child will get up and start moving.

Consider limiting TV time. Research clearly shows that TV time is unproductive time for children and teens. If your children spend less time watching TV, they may spend more time exercising.
